Le Corbusier Centre

The actual office the whole city was drawn in, now a museum to its own making.

Where it sits in the city
This room’s memory is still to be written. Any owner memory of the Le Corbusier Centre.

Then & now

Then
Built in the early 1950s as the city’s design office; a museum since 6 October 2008.
Who
Pierre Jeanneret.
Before
The Capital Project’s working studio, the Department of Urban Planning until 1965.

The OG move

Jeanneret built it as a low-cost climate experiment, exposed concrete, precast sloping-roof beams, brick-tile floors, jute-and-lac panels for doors and shutters, an early Indian try at green architecture.

A fact that reframes it

Every line of Chandigarh, the grid, the sectors, the Capitol, was drawn inside this one building.
